In this sermon series we will focus on the Jesus tradition in the Gospel according to Matthew and the Gospel according to John. The good news that the kingdom of God has drawn near in Jesus Christ calls for a response, an act of faith, not only for those who have yet to believe but for those who are already believers as well. Repentance is by nature introspective. It is one way that we respond to what has God done and is doing in the world and in us.
More than a "turning to God and regretting wrongs that we have done," repentance is also about searching our hearts, coming to know ourselves even as we are fully known by God, and desiring “to live upon Christ in faith,” as John Wesley wrote. May this season be a time of changed hearts, changed actions, and changed lives as we seek to walk by faith in Christ.
