Care Ministries

At Gary Church there are many opportunities to care and be cared for during the joys and challenges of life. If you, or someone you know, is in need of a listening ear, helping hand or words of encouragement, we would like to come alongside you in prayer, care and love.
So that we can journey together in life and faith, please let us know of your needs or of your interest in serving in care ministry by contacting the Church Office.

Care, Support and Visitation
If you are going through a difficult time and need support, are scheduled to have surgery or have an unexpected hospital stay, we are here to offer support and pray with and for you.

Our pastors remain available for prayer and support through phone, email, and via Zoom. For the safety of all, our pastoral staff and lay visitation team must suspend in-person visits during this time. We are deeply saddened to be unable to visit you, but encourage you to contact us through the Church Office at

Care Notes Ministry
People experiencing pain and life’s challenges can benefit from “the right words at the right time.” Our Care Notes ministry helps to provide these words through simple, uplifting booklets that provide strength, help and healing for those who are hurting. The Care Notes display can be found in the Commons. Please feel free to take one for you or a friend who could use a little TLC and words of encouragement.

Meal Ministry
This ministry team provides meals to individuals who could use support during a difficult time. If you are going through a challenging time and could use support, or if you are interested in serving as part of the Meal Ministry team, please let us know.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
This ministry consists of members committed to knitting prayer shawls to be given to those in need of support and encouragement. If you are interested in offering your knitting skills, or if you are in need of some extra support and encouragement, please let us know.

Central DuPage Pastoral Counseling Center (CDPCC)
Daily stress at home and work is normal – unreasonable job expectations, relationship issues, breakdown in communication, parenting, etc. Whatever the situation, Central DuPage Pastoral Counseling Center is a non-profit counseling agency offering affordable, professional counseling to the public, since 1976. Specialized counseling includes marriage, family, art therapy, play therapy, and counseling for the deaf. Gary Church has been a supporting church (affiliate) since the Center’s inception. CDPCC is located at 507 Thornhill Drive in Carol Stream. For more information, please phone 630-752-9750. Be sure to visit the Central DuPage Pastoral Counseling website for a current listing of their Pre-Marriage and Couple Communication Workshops,

The following Care Ministries are currently on hiatus due to the pandemic. We hope to resume when it is safe to do so.

The Care Ministry Team at Gary Church consists of lay members who go out to visit homebound members typically on a monthly basis to share faith, fellowship and communion.

Senior Bus Transportation Ministry
This ministry team provides bus transportation to and from local senior living communities to the 11:00 Sunday worship service at Gary Church. If you are interested in this ministry, either as a passenger or ministry team member, please let us know.

Grief Support Group: This group is for those grieving the death of someone close. It is a place where you can be with people who understand how you feel and the pain of your loss. You’ll gain valuable tools to help you as you continue on the journey of grief. You are welcome to join us at any time to see if the group will be helpful to you in your grief process. Contact the Church Office for information on the next session.

Care Card Ministry
This ministry consists of members with the gift of compassion and creativity. The group gathers several times a month to create hand-made cards. Personalized cards are sent to Gary members and friends who could use a word of encouragement or tender loving care. If you are interested in sharing your gifts of creativity and/or compassion, please let us know.
